Nokia 2180 Cellular Telephone (170-1403) NAM Programming Programming Instructions Nokia 2180 cellular telephones are capable of supporting authentication. The programmer must decide which form of A-Key is desired for use. The options are either RANDOM or DEFAULT. If a RANDOM A-Key is desired, use the Easy NAM 1 programming sequence. If a DEFAULT A-Key is required, then use the Easy NAM 2 sequence. Use the Complete NAM Programming Instructions when advanced programming options require alterations. The clear key can be used to correct mistakes. Menu Driven Easy NAM Programming For Nokia 2180 Hand Portables 1. Turn On Phone and Enter Easy NAM Access Code. - *#6391# for NAM 1 with Random A-Key, OR - *#6392# for NAM 2 with Default A-Key. 2. Enter the 10 Digit Area Code and Phone Number and Press The Send Key (or the 'OK' softkey in display). 3. Enter the Country Code supplied by Service Provider and Press The Send Key (or the 'OK' softkey in display). 4. Enter System ID Code (SID) Supplied by the Service Provider (1-5 Digit SID) and Press The Send (or 'OK') Key. Optional Settings are Language and Lock Code (See below). Programming Is Completed. Phone Automatically Powers Off and Then Back On. Notes: Change the Lock code by adding a pound sign and new lock code after the SID. (Example: 42#7788; Lock code = 7788). Change the Language by adding a pound sign and new language code after the code (Example: 42#2; Language = Spanish). Language Code: 0 (default) = English, 1 = French, and 2 = Spanish. Change the Lock code and Language code by separating each set of numbers by a pound sign (Example: 42#7788#2; Where the SID = 00042, Lock code = 7788 and Language = 2 Spanish). Compete NAM Programming Instructions Access NAM Programming Mode: 1. Turn the phone on. 2. Enter the NAM access code. Factory default is: *3001#12345 [Menu]. 3. If the screen* below appears, you have entered NAM programming mode. Note: If this screen does not appear, after several attempts, then the access code has been changed, and the phone must be returned to the original purchase location for programming. If NAM location 1 (Random A-Key) is not being used, the default OWN NUMBER must be disabled to prevent an inactive number from being selected. To disable a NAM, enter the main menu for that NAM, and then enter the Default Settings Menu, then enter the NAM Status Menu and set the option to "Disable". 7. If the displayed value is desired to be changed, press the [Select] softkey and use the numeric keypad to make any needed changes. Use the [OK] softkey to store the new information that has been entered. 9. Repeat steps 6 through 8 for the remaining NAM parameter options to be viewed and/or changed. 10. To program other NAMs, press [Quit] to return to the Main Menu. Select the desired NAM location and enter the applicable data. Once the Home System ID and Own Number are programmed, the phone will automatically set the NAM Status to enabled. Programming The Security Code: 11. From the Main Menu, use the Arrow-Key to select the "Security" Sub Menu, press [Select] and the current 5-digit security code will appear in the display. Default is 12345. 12. If you wish to change the Security Code at this time, use the numeric keys to enter the new value. 13. Press the softkey [OK] to store changes. Note: Changing the Security Code automatically changes the Lock Code to the last 4 digits of the new Security Code. Programming Emergency Numbers: (Optional) 14. From the Main Menu use the Arrow-Key to select the "Emergency" Sub Menu, press the [Select] softkey to access the emergency numbers. EMERGENCY NUMBER 1 (911) EMERGENCY NUMBER 2 (*911) EMERGENCY NUMBER 3 (None) 15. If you wish to change the default value shown above, use the [Arrow Key] to select the emergency number you wish to change and press [Select]. Then use the numeric keys to enter the new values. 16. Press the softkey [OK] to save the value. 17. Press [Quit] to exit the menu. Serial Number (ESN) 18. From the Main Menu, use the Arrow-Key to display the Electronic Serial Number (ESN) of the phone. 19. Press [Quit] or [OK] to exit the menu. Programmed: (Date the phone is first programmed) 20. From the Main Menu, use the [Arrow-Key] to select the "Programmed" menu. 21. Press [Select] and enter a four digit number that corresponds to the month and year the phone is sold. Example (mmyy) 0197 = January 1997, 0998 = September 1998. Note: This menu location can be programmed only one time. Once the date has been entered it can not be changed. Attempts to enter new data in the menu once is has been programmed, will receive a short beep and the message "DATE ALREADY STORED". A-Key Code: (Optional) 22. Press the [Select] softkey while the "A-Key Code" is displayed. 23. Enter the new A-Key and Checksum that was calculated by the service providers' security administrator. 24. Press [OK] to store the new A-Key. Field Test The FIELD TEST MODE is used to investigate how the phone and cellular system interact. The FIELD TEST information covers signal strength, battery charging status, cellular state and encryption status. The information is organized to display information relating to Analog Control Channels, Digital Control Channels, Analog Voice Channels, and Digital Voice Channels. All the information provided in the FIELD TEST display is in accordance with IS-95. To activate the FIELD TEST mode the phone must be in NAM programming mode. Instructions for entering NAM programming are listed above. Use the following steps to enable the FIELD TEST mode. I. From the Main Menu use the Arrow-Key to display the "FIELD TEST" menu and press the [Select] softkey. Use the Arrow-Key to select Enable and press the softkey [OK]. II. Turn the 2180 off then back on. Once the power up self test is completed, the FIELD TEST display will begin automatically. Scroll through the different displays using the Arrow-Key. To disable the FIELD TEST mode, return to NAM programming mode and disable the function under the FIELD TEST menu. Programming SIDS: The Nokia 2180 provides the option to program 4 categories of System ID's. The options are Home (up to 5), Preferred (up to 80), Forbidden (up to 5). The SID list is programmed to control the system selection / re-selection processes and priority. Programming the SID list is part of the NAM programming menu. Each NAM locations have their own SID list. The unit will scan to locate and identify the available service providers. Then the phone will rank the available providers with priority to the home system, then preferred system. A phone will never use a forbidden system except to call numbers stored in the emergency number locations shown above in steps 14 - 17. Follow these instructions to program the SID lists. I. Enter the NAM programming menu and select NAM 1 (or the desired NAM). II. Use the Arrow-Key to display "SID LISTS" and press [Select]. Valid values for System Identification are (00001 - 32767). III. Use the Arrow-Key to select the desired list and then press the [Select] softkey (Home, Preferred or Forbidden). IV. Press the [Select] softkey to select the first empty location (or select location with information you wish to change) in the Preferred SID list. V. Use the numeric keyboard to enter a new value or change an existing value. VI. Press the [OK] softkey to store the value in that location. Exiting NAM Programming: 25. To exit the NAM programming mode, turn the phone off and leave it off for five seconds. Then turn it back on. (4/28/99)
