Nokia 918 Series Cellular Telephone

Note:  The Nokia 918 Cellular Telephone, Cat. No. 170-1242, is the only
       918 Series that has the TracFone chip.  This means it can be
       programmed as a regular activation (including Pre-Paid from a
       cellular carrier) or it can be programmed as a TracFone.

Menu Driven Easy NAM Programming For Nokia 918 Hand Portables

All Nokia 918 cellular telephones are capable of supporting authentication
The programmer must decide which form of A-key is desired for use. The two
options are either the RANDOM or DEFAULT A-key.  If the RANDOM key is
desired for use, use the quick NAM programming sequence.  If a DEFAULT
A-key is desired, then the complete NAM programming method is used to
program NAM location number 2.  The clear key can be used to correct
mistakes.

Use For Random A-Key

1.  Turn on phone and enter Programming Access Code (*#639#).

2.  Enter the 10 digit area code and phone number and press the Send Key.

3.  Enter System ID Code (SID) supplied by cellular service provider (1-5
    digit SID) followed by 4 zeros and press the Send Key.

      Optional settings are Language and Lock Code (See below).

      Programming is completed.

      Phone automatically powers Off and then back On.

If you wish to change the Lock Code, follow the System ID in Step 3 with a
# and enter the desired four digit Lock Code (Example: 000420000#2234).
You may also change the Language Code in the same manner (Example: 0000420
000#2).  You may also change both the Language and Lock Codes together
(Example: 000420000#2#2234).

Default Lock Code is 1234.  Language Code designators are 0 = English,
1 = French, and 2 = Spanish.

If the MIN or SID are not entered correctly you may see two different
messages.  "TRY AGAIN" indicates the number was not entered correctly.
The "NAM ERROR" display after the power cycles indicates that one of the
numbers entered is not correct.  You must check and reprogram the phone
for the "NAM ERROR" message.

Complete NAM Programming Instructions

Use For Default A-Key

Access NAM Programming Mode

1.  Turn the phone on.

2.  Enter the NAM access code.  Factory default is: *3001#12345[OK].  The
    display should now be blank.  Verification of programming mode access
    is possible by using the [\/] key to view the NAM programming
    registers (n1 - through n6 in the top right corner of the display).

    Note 1:  If access to NAM programming is not possible after a few
             attempts, the access code has been changed and it must be
             returned to the original point of sale for programming.  It
             is also possible that an error has occurred and the phone
             will have to be returned to Nokia for repair.

    Note 2:  If NAM location 1 (Random A-Key) is not being used, clear the
             default MIN by using the following key sequence:  Press and
             hold [CLR] then press [MENU][\/][OK][OK][OK]2[OK].

Enter Special NAM Parameters (Memory Location n1)

3.  Press and hold the [CLR] key until the display clears.

4.  In one long strung, enter the special NAM parameters according to the
    format in Example 1 below.  Enter each emergency number (such as 911)
    followed by the pound (#) key, the Language Code followed by the
    asterisk (*) key, and the desired four-digit Lock Code.  Language
    Codes: 0 = English, 1 = French, 2 = Spanish or 3 = Portuguese.

    Note 1:  Emergency numbers entered in memory location n1 can be used
             while call restrictions are active and when the phone is
             locked.

    Note 2:  The first number entered in the list of emergency numbers is
             used for the speed dial (9) key.

Example 1:

5.  Enter [OK] 1 [OK].

Enter Mobile Phone Number (Memory Location n2 or n4)

6.  Press and hold the [CLR] key until the display clears.

7.  Enter the 10 digit phone number.  A wake up text message may be added
    by pressing the [ABC] key and entering the desired message from the
    keypad.

8.  Enter [OK] 2 [OK] (For NAM 1 with RANDOM A-Key).  Enter [OK] 4 [OK]
    (For NAM 2 with DEFAULT A-Key).

Enter System Parameters (Memory Location n3 or n5)

9.  Press and hold the [CLR] key until the display clears.

10. In one long string, enter the system parameters according to the
    format in Example 2 below.  Be sure to separate each parameter with an
    asterisk (*) as shown below.  Do not place an asterisk before or after
    the string.

Example 2:

11. Enter [OK] 3 [OK] (For NAM 1 with RANDOM A-Key.)  Enter [OK] 5 [OK]
    (For NAM 2 with DEFAULT A-Key).

Enter Program Date (Memory Location n6)

12. Enter the programming date (month and year) in a four digit sequence
    (for January 1997, enter 0197).

13. Enter [OK] 6 [OK].

Verify NAM Information

14. Press and hold the [CLR] key until the display clears.

15. Use the [\/] key and location number to verify data stored in memory
    locations n1 through n5.

16. Verify that the information for each memory location is correct.  Use
    the [END] key to view characters that have scrolled off the left side
    of the display.

17. To exit the programming mode, power the phone off then back on.  If
    "NAM ERROR" appears on the display, programming was done incorrectly
    and must be repeated.

Sid Programming (Memory Locations 11-41, Optional)

SID Information is stored to memory locations 11-41 in NAM programming
mode.  A system ID is entered as a decimal number with either a *
(preferred) or # (non-preferred) sign in front of each system ID.  The
phone will automatically choose the next available memory location when
storing the system ID's.

For example, with a new phone the following could be entered:

*3015 [OK] 11 [OK] (this system ID would be preferred and stored in
location 11).

#2556 [OK][OK] (this system ID would be non-preferred and automatically
stored in location 12).

Verifying Sid Data Stored In Memory Location(s) 10 (and Up)

The SID checksum is stored in memory location 10.  To recall this
information, press the key sequence that follows.  [MENU] 2 [ABC] 10 [OK]

The parameters in location 10 are displayed in this format: [Checksum *
number of preferred SIDs * # number of non-preferred SIDs #]  To view each
SID parameter individually, use the [/\] key to scroll through the
registers 11-41.

Example 3:  23433*01*#02# The checksum = 23433, one preferred SID and 2
non-preferred SIDs are programmed.

Clearing SID Locations

To clear one SID location clear the display then enter [OK][OK], number of
location to clear, [OK][OK].

To clear all SID data, press and hold [CLR], the screen will clear and
then enter [OK][OK] 10 [OK].

Note:  To program locations 11-41 for the alternate NAM, select the other
       NAM in normal phone mode by using the key sequence [MENU] then [/\]
       (4 times) [OK].  Then return to NAM programming mode and follow the
       instructions above for the alternate NAM.
